We specialise in supply and erection of Hired Construction Hoists and offer various models / platform dimensions, for carrying; Glazing / Palletised materials / Bathroom Pods / Scaffolding / Passengers, with lifting capacities ranging from 2000kg down to 200kg.

We are proud to be preferred suppliers to many Build UK Companies, Regional Contractors & leading Roofing & Scaffold Providers for the past 25+ years. We have achieved this status through our close attention to detailed specifics of Hoist installations, & our proven track record of quality service, professionalism, rapid response times & quality products at competitive rates.

Site specific RAMS, together with any Temporary Works information are provided as standard, following a formal site survey, in order to ensure smooth and, most importantly, safe work processes. We always work closely with our clients, to ensure the smoothest sequence of installation – on time and with no fuss.

Furthermore, as a member of the CPA since the Company’s inception, in 1995, we have been an active member of the ‘Special Interest Group’ – ‘CHIG’ – Construction Hoist Interest Group since its’ origin, in 1997, formed to represent the UK Hoist Hire Industry in respect of UK / EU Regulation/s, existing and proposed, such as, then, LOLER 1998 and which, working together with the HSE, UKCG & Manufacturers has since introduced many safety driven ACoP’s and Guidelines over this past 25+ years, and ongoing. CHIG members are much safer and more responsible providers, as a result of this work and the Company is proud of the part it has and will continue to play.

History of Hoist Hire Services Ltd

The Company commenced trading, in May of 1995, originally as “Specialist Services [South West] Ltd”, changing its name to “HOIST HIRE Services LTD”, in July of 2000.

Set up by Jerry Douce, who had worked in the Construction Plant and Tool, Hire and Sales Industry, dealing throughout the South-West, since 1970.  Hoist Hire Services Ltd was initially opened as himself, two Hoist Installers and a Secretary. Offering a fleet of 15 x 200kg Superlift [swinging basket] Goods Hoists, to clients across Devon and Cornwall.

Its logo has, from the onset, been “The Professionals’ Professionals” and its work ethos; “Service and compliance, with competitive pricing and clarity”.

From this beginning, the Company grew, rapidly, by good reputation and, in response to increasing demand, opened its second outlet, in Bristol, in 2000.  From then, the custom generated from the Bristol office has driven Hoist Hire Services Ltd forward, from its original abilities, and the Bristol outlet now stands as the Head Office, from which the Company trades.

In 2019, the Company opened a third outlet, as a means to support demands for its services from its ever-growing client base and geographic regions, in now supplying its Hoists and Services to clients in the West / North Midlands and throughout the Western side of England as well as throughout Wales.

As reflected on the Website and on LinkedIn, Hoist Hire Services Ltd continues to grow, with a large and varied specification fleet of Hoists, offering a comprehensive service.

In late 2017 Jerry Douce [with his fellow shareholder] successfully structured a ‘MBO’ to, Shawn [son-in-law] and Katy Williamson [daughter] who stepped up to the plate and Managed the Company so well, taking the roles of Managing and Operations Directors, respectively.  In 2023, and after 25 years of dedicated service with the company, Chris Douce accepted the offer of a new role. That of Technical Director.

Under their guidance, working together with their team colleagues [now to 40+] they have grown the business, exponentially. This has only been possible, thanks to the foundations that Jerry spent 20+ Years laying, as MD, through his sheer hard work, commitment, and dedication in growing and running the business through some extremely difficult times.

Shawn, Katy and Chris continue to look to the future, and to furthering Hoist Hire Services position as a  leading provider of these specialist hire services, throughout the Western side of England  as well as throughout Wales, to all its current highly valued client base and to all those  who will yet wish, also, to gain benefit from its proven input and support.

Members of the CPA – Construction Plant-hire Association – we offer our services under the CPA Model Terms and Conditions of Hire together with their Supplementary Terms, as appropriate. Copies of these terms are available upon request and are routinely detailed to clients with all quotes and hires undertaken.
CHIG – Construction Hoist Interest Group
Further, within the CPA, we are active members of CHIG – Construction Hoist Interest Group – specialist interest group, working in partnership with, for example, the NASC and HSE, to review and provide new guidelines in support of existing Regulations and to improve safe Construction Hoist practices.
International Powered Access Federation (IPAF).
Hoist Hire Services are now members of the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF). By joining IPAF we are joining a global movement to ensure a safer powered access industry.

We believe that the success of Hoist Hire Services Limited depends on the continual improvement in the supply of material/goods hoists. A constant strive to improve upon nationally accepted standards. As a Hoist specialist we have a truly focussed workforce intent on delivering the finest Hoist hire service possible.

The hiring of Hoists is simply not comparable to the hire of general plant. The field of Hoist installation, alteration, dismantle and maintenance demands focus in order to provide a quality service to our clients. Hence, we place great emphasis on the continual professional development of our employees, and in particular, our Hoist Installers and Technicians.

We believe that our training and development programme sets us apart from our competitors. Whilst others seek the minimum in terms of education, and do not always attain qualifications of any kind, we strive for the maximum in terms of both. We do not simply settle for Hoist manufacturer training. We deliver, in-house, Hoist Installer NVQ’s to the highest achievable level of expertise to our Installers and Technicians. Investing in 2 of our own fully certified NVQ Assessors bears testament to this. We then supplement this very important foundation with manufacturer training, CITB training, IOSH training, safety critical occupational health assessment, work at height training,  and courses such as rescue from height, first aid, crane operation, mental health, asbestos, in-house topical training and many others besides.

We strongly believe that this approach to the development of our employees ensures that our clients enjoy both a service and a product that can be matched by few. We expect our clients to have high expectations of us, and thoroughly enjoy meeting such expectations on a regular basis.
